What we do

The żWomen’s Health Foundation proudly supports fellows, trainees and scientists pursuing high quality, innovative research and training in women’s health.

Research scholarships, fellowships and travel grants are awarded annually across Australia and New Zealand to promising researchers committed to continuous improvement in the fields of obstetrics, gynaecology, and the reproductive sciences.

The Foundation strives to recognise researchers at different stages of their careers and in particular young researchers, to assist them as they progress their careers.

We support doctors pursuing international research opportunities in the world’s leading hospitals and institutions, as well as low-resource settings in developing countries.

FżTrainee in Financial Difficulty Bursary

About

The Foundation acknowledges the financial challenges experienced by trainees. The FżTrainee in Financial Difficulty Bursary is intended to support trainees in genuine financial hardship and provide financial assistance that allows them to complete their training.

Eligibility

You are eligible to apply for the FżTrainee in financial hardship bursary if you:

Are an Australian citizen or permanent resident, or a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident.

Are a current Fżtrainee undertaking part-time or full-time training.

Are experiencing genuine financial difficulty.

All applications will be assessed against the following criteria and preference will be given to applicants who have not received previous funding:

The degree of financial need.

Preference may be given to trainees from an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Background or Māori or Pacific Islander background.

Assessment

FżTrainee in Financial Difficulty Bursaries are awarded at the discretion of the Foundation Committee. Decisions are based on greatest need and available funding and the Foundation may award a bursary for all or part of the expenses applied for.

Bursary funds

Up to a total of $60,000 is available annually.

Apply

Applications are open from the issue of training invoices in late November and close on 13 January. Applications can also be made at other times of the year.

The Foundation aims to make decisions on awarding of bursaries by the end of January when training fees are due. If this is not possible invoices for training fees will be put ‘on hold’ with no training time penalties applied until the Foundation Committee has assessed the bursary application. If a bursary is not awarded training fees must then be paid, or an instalment arrangement made, within four weeks of notification of the outcome of the bursary application.
