Global health

ÍćĹĽ˝ă˝ăaims to build the capacity of the O&G workforce in Pacific Island countries through support for training, education and research.

RANZCOG, members and trainees contribute to women’s health around the world. They have worked or continue to work in 50 countries outside of Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand, supporting global women’s health via workforce capacity building, providing clinical care, screening, health promotion, and development of guidelines.

What we do

We support Pacific O&G trainees and specialists by:

offering ÍćĹĽ˝ă˝ăAffiliate Membership to Pacific O&G specialists

providing access to ÍćĹĽ˝ă˝ăresources and scholarships

working in collaboration with local, regional and international partners, including Pacific Medical Schools, O&G Societies and Ministries of Health, Medical Colleges within Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand, and non-government organisations working in the Pacific

raising awareness about global women’s health issues

We provide resources, scholarships, networking and research support for the O&G training programs at the University of Papua New Guinea School of Medicine and Health Sciences, and the Fiji National University College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences.

For clinicians in the Pacific

We offer the following scholarships to Pacific O&G trainees and specialists to support their training and professional development.

Mukhtiar Raghbir Sidhu ÍćĹĽ˝ă˝ăAsian and Pacific Developing Countries Education Grant
Citizens and residents of developing Pacific or Asian countries, who are trainees enrolled in an OBGYN training program can apply to participate in a 1-4 week clinical observership in any tertiary OBGYN department in Australia or New Zealand.
ÍćĹĽ˝ă˝ăPacific Scholarship (State and Territory Committees and Te KÄhui Oranga ĹŤ Nuku)
University of PNG and Fiji National University O&G trainees, and recently-graduated O&G specialists can apply for ÍćĹĽ˝ă˝ăPacific Scholarships to attend ÍćĹĽ˝ă˝ăevents in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.
ÍćĹĽ˝ă˝ăPacific Affiliate member CPD Scholarship
Pacific Affiliate members can apply for this scholarship to attend the ÍćĹĽ˝ă˝ăAnnual Scientific Meeting (ASM) in Australia.
ÍćĹĽ˝ă˝ăBrian Spurrett Fellowship
Pacific doctors and nurses can apply for this Fellowship to participate in CPD (usually to attend the ÍćĹĽ˝ă˝ăAnnual Scientific Meeting in Australia).
ÍćĹĽ˝ă˝ăAcademic Fellowship
Newly-appointed O&G academics at University of PNG and Fiji National University may be nominated for a ÍćĹĽ˝ă˝ăAcademic Fellowship by their Heads of O&G.
ÍćĹĽ˝ă˝ăBook Prize
Recent graduates of University of PNG and Fiji National University Master of Medicine (O&G) and Diploma of O&G courses may be nominated for the ÍćĹĽ˝ă˝ăBook Prize by their Heads of O&G.

For clinicians in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand

We also support Fellows and trainees from Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand to participate in international O&G conferences, and further their career goals with travel funding.

ÍćĹĽ˝ă˝ăNSW State Committee Travelling Scholarship
Two $10,000 (or one $20,000) awards are available to New South Wales-based trainees for the purpose of travelling to train in a developing county in the Asia-Pacific region.
Brown Craig Travelling Fellowship
Early-career ÍćĹĽ˝ă˝ăFellows and Advanced FÍćĹĽ˝ă˝ătrainees can apply for one of two $5,000 travel Fellowships for study or presentation of a scientific paper in O&G.
Mizuno-Ratnam Young Gynaecologist Award
ÍćĹĽ˝ă˝ăFellows and FÍćĹĽ˝ă˝ătrainees under 40 years of age can apply to be funded to attend the biennial AOFOG Congress.

Our private Global Health Facebook is open to Pacific Affiliate members, Pacific O&G trainees, as well as members and trainees based in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.

The group provides O&G clinicians across the Pacific, Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand the opportunity to engage with each other, share information, and participate in discussions in a supportive environment.
